In Shanghai,
we stayed with Mary's niece Anja and husband Julian. Walking about one
day I noticed Anja's red shoes next to a stone pavement marker and
thought them worthy of a photo. After that I kept looking down and
became distracted by the variation of manhole covers that we came
across. That became a subject for a photo essay. I think a lot of
bystanders thought it odd, but in Hong Kong
we visited with Mary's nephew Philip and his wife Alex. She thought it
perfectly normal. She is also an architect, so we think it's an
architect thing.
